Observational tests of the GAIA expected harvest on eclipsing binaries

چکیده
GAIA observations of eclipsing binary stars will have a large impact on stellar astrophysics. Accurate parameters, including absolute masses and sizes will be derived for ∼ 10 systems, orders of magnitude more than what has ever been done from the ground. Observations of 18 real systems in the GAIA-like mode as well as with devoted groundbased campaigns are used to assess binary recognition techniques, orbital period determination, accuracy of derived fundamental parameters and the need to automate the whole reduction and interpretation process.

GAIA survey of galactic eclipsing binaries
General importance and capabilities of observations of eclipsing binaries by the forthcoming ESA mission GAIA are discussed. Availability of spectroscopic observations and a large number of photometric bands on board will make it possible to reliably determine physical parameters for ∼ 10 binary stars. It is stressed that current methods of object by object analysis will have to be modified and...
متن کاملCoarse Estimation of Physical Parameters of Eclipsing Binaries by Means of Automative Scripting
Because of GAIA’s estimated harvest of ∼ 10 eclipsing binaries (Munari et al. 2001) automative procedures for extracting physical parameters from observations must be introduced. We present preliminary results of automative scripting applied to 5 eclipsing binaries, for which photometric and radial velocity observations were taken from literature. Although the results are encouraging, extensive...
متن کاملEclipsing Binaries in Open Clusters
Detached eclipsing binaries are very useful objects for calibrating theoretical stellar models and checking their predictions. Detached eclipsing binaries in open clusters are particularly important because of the additional constraints on their age and chemical composition from their membership of the cluster. I compile a list containing absolute parameters of wellstudied eclipsing binaries in...

I present a review of recent observational work on Cepheid variables and eclipsing binaries in our Galaxy, the Magellanic Clouds, and other members of the Local Group.
متن کاملTesting Blend Scenarios for Extrasolar Transiting Planet Candidates . Ii . — Ogle - Tr - 56
We re-examine the photometric and spectroscopic evidence available for the star OGLE-TR-56, recently discovered to harbor a giant planet presenting transits and orbiting with a period of 1.21 days. We investigate the possibility that the observational signatures reported might be the result of “blending” with the light of an eclipsing binary along the same line of sight. Using techniques develo...
